This is another, less bizarre form of the reverse-contrast display face known as Italian, also referred to as French on the Continent. The more conventional approach to weight, giving thick horizontals at the tops and bottoms of bowls and heavy slab serifs, makes this variant on the genre useful at a wide range of sizes.
